It was a heck of a weekend moving into our townhome. Here is a run-down of all of the events since my last post.
Thursday
I took a half-day on Thursday to pick up My Precious and head to Home Depot for an immediate dining room light replacement. We ended up getting another ceiling light/fan for the master bedroom while we were there. The bank took forever to do our closing cashier’s check. It should have only taken 3 minutes to do, but our teller managed to stretch it out to a round 20, just enough to stress me out about getting to closing on time.
Closing went amazingly good. They had our names spelled correctly everywhere and we had already been over a few of the FHA forms before, so it wasn’t as much reading as I thought it would be. The great news is that the closing costs ended up being significantly lower than estimated at contract, and our mortgage payment came out to be a mere $26 more than our rent for a 2BR/2BA apartment! That was a huge blessing for our first home.
We went straight to the house and did a quick walkthrough, headed to my in-law’s to pick up their minivan, loaded it up, and took all of the kitchen boxes to the house. They joined us later on with my sister-in-law, since she had never been there through construction, and I hung the dining room light and killed Dad’s arms from holding it in place in the process. I didn’t blow any fuses or electrocute anyone, either. I put in three 17W florescent bulbs in and it looks mah-velous!
Friday
We moved all of the food, extra bridal shower appliances, and clothes Friday morning and put up 2 fans with my brother-in-law. We had to run to Home Depot for a fan extension and a few manly things. The Verizon guy put in our FiOS system and was gone a little after noon. Mom and Dad came over after work and we worked on raising and adding another level of shelving in the master closet. I don’t know what time they left, but I woke up on the floor at 10:45 and got a ride home while I kept sleeping. That ended my day that began at 5am. Whew!
Saturday
Our good buddy arrived at the house at 8:30am with his food service truck and we started loading boxes before anyone else arrived, since I said we’d start by 9:00. Well, we did. We’d already loaded up the minivan with delicates and electronics when we had to move it to let the truck back in. Everyone arrived in short order, and we pulled out at 9:10, just as the last person arrived, so we “made” him be a carpool chief for the people who loaded up.
It took about 40 minutes to get home and then we unloaded super-fast and headed back for the rest of the big furniture, including the piano. All in all, the piano is really easy to lift with 7 dudes. Getting it off was a lot more precarious than loading, but it came through alright. Dad picked up pizza for everyone on our way back and we scarfed down 5 pizzas in no time and unloaded the second truckload and everyone headed home.
But family was not so lucky. We still had more work to do. The days are such a blur now, I can’t remember what we did which day now, but we added shelving to the laundry closet, bought and hung a fan in the office, and started on the guest room fan when I stripped the screws for the baseplate and called it a day. I think that was Monday.
The place is really coming together and Beautiful is doing a great job putting things in their place and decorating already. I think it’s time to start thinking about painting downstairs. We’ll see if we survive the color-picking process. I’ll post photos soon in their own gallery post.
Wow! Just what I’ve been waiting for!
Good to know you got everything moved and had lots of people to help you. Can’t wait to see the photos – hint, hint 🙂
Have a good weekend and remember we love you both!
