Wired Magazine online had a story that was too cool to pass by without checking out: Man Buried in Haiti Rubble Uses iPhone to Treat Wounds, Survive – yeah!
I checked it out and was amazed by several things:
- they have cell phone service in one of the piss-poorest countries in the world
- the iPhone was undamaged after “being crushed by a pile of rubble”
- the phone was charged enough to last 65 hours while sounding an alarm over 180 times
Cell phone service is all you can get here. The government run “phone company” will not install the switching gear needed to add more numbers to the system. But practically everyone has a cell phone on this island. For those not in the know, Honduras is the 2nd poorest country in the hemisphere.
